An old rock dugout. Was this built to live in or was it used as a cellar for food storage? I believe to answer that questions one would have to go back many years to when it was being used. This probably represented the first building on this farm which was homesteaded in the early 1900s. Dugout was built from the quartzite rocks that were laying on the hillside. Dig a hole back into the hillside, rock up the walls. Use poles for the roof and then add a sod roof. Simple building using the materials at hand.
