Engine 487 as it pulls the steep grade on the Antonito side of pass on Cumbres & Toltec railroad. There is not much room along the narrow gauge railroad. I wondered how far the train might roll, if it de-railed in a bad stretch of track. The steam engine is fired by coal and probably would not meet Eviromental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. It is not producing near as much smoke as one of the Forest Service's control burns to "remove fuel and reduce a fire hazard." Building a fire to burn something so it won't catch on fire and burn does not make a lot of sense to me. But then many things done by govermental agencys don't make much sense to my way of thinking.
