A 3 point buck, western count, feeds toward the doe laying in the snow in previous picture. He is a small buck but deer are getting pretty hard to find in this area. Being hunting season is over he will be a better buck by the time next fall comes around. That is if the lions don't get him. Lions are protected and a special license is need to hunt them. A mature lion will kill and eat a deer a week which adds up to 52 deer a year to keep a lion going. There are many more lions around that most people think. They will be found where the dinner ticket, ie deer, are located. So if you see deer especially during winter time you can figure the lions are near by. If the deer or other food is not available a lion will kill what ever is available such as sheep or cattle and even pets. Other prediators are around such as coyote, and bobcats. As food becomes hard to find they come closer to town and pick up stray dogs and cats when avaiable.
