This is a better 3 point. He has tall, fairly heavy horns that are not very wide. In an another year or two he might get big enough to interest me if I was still hunting deer. The only hunting I do now is with a camera. Many years ago when I spent a lot of time chasing big bucks, I would not shoot anything that was less than 30 inches wide. I would guess this buck at about 20-22 inches wide. If you look at his ears, they are straight back and he is leaving the country. I have found that judging a mature buck when he is looking straight at you and his ears are clear layed out they are about 21 inches across the ears. Anything that is wider than the out streched ears gets interesting. Almost everytime I looked at a buck from the rear I overestimated the size. To not get fooled make sure you get a good look........Of course if the horn are way beyond the ears, put him down.....it is a lot easier to count the points when they are laying on the ground. I have been in on the killing of only 3 good bucks, 35 3/4 inches which my Dad and I got, 32 3/8 which Uncle Rollo and I shot and a straight 4 point that was 32 inches wide I shot by myself. This 32 inch 4 point, western count was killed in 1980 and was the last buck that i shot.
